Hotels in Barcelona

Make Barcelona a holiday of architecture and city walks, or give the sea a leading role. Before comparing hotels, decide which places you want to wake up close to.

This guide helps you choose an area. Hotel prices and availability are checked when you search with dates and guests.

Get to know the area before choosing a hotel

The Gothic Quarter

Medieval lanes around the cathedral, between La Rambla and Via Laietana. Everything is a walk away; the streets are narrow and some are loud at night, so ask which way the room faces.

El Born

Medieval streets around the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar and the Picasso Museum, with small bars and shops, a walk from the Gothic Quarter and the beach.

Gràcia

A former village above the Eixample, with small squares, independent shops and local bars. Lively in a neighbourly way, and close to Park Güell.

Poblenou

Former factories turned into flats, offices and hotels near the beaches beyond the Olympic Port. Calmer than the old town, with the sea close by and the metro into the centre.

Getting in from the airport

Barcelona–El Prat (BCN)

The Aerobús runs from both terminals to Plaça de Catalunya, metro line L9 Sud links the airport to the metro network, and the R2 Nord train leaves from Terminal 2. Check which terminal your airline uses.

Getting around the city

The metro and the buses cover most of Barcelona, and the centre is good for walking. The black-and-yellow taxis can be hailed in the street. Keep an eye on your belongings in crowds, on the metro and around La Rambla.

When to go

  • Late spring (May and June) and September are warm, with the sea swimmable and fewer crowds than in high summer.
  • July and August are hot, humid and the busiest months, on the beach and in the city.
  • Winter is mild and quieter, and the beach is for walks rather than swims.

Before choosing your address

  • “Near the sea” does not necessarily mean a sea-view room. Check the room category and which way it faces.
  • For a family stay, confirm that the room accommodates everyone and that the bed configuration suits you.
  • On busy streets, ask about window insulation and whether a courtyard-facing room is available.

Questions before you book

Where should I stay in Barcelona for a first visit?

The Eixample, the Gothic Quarter or El Born: the old town, Passeig de Gràcia and the metro within a walk.

Is it better to stay by the beach or in the centre?

Barceloneta and Poblenou are by the sea, the Eixample and the old town by the sights. Barcelona is compact, so each is a short metro ride from the other.

How do I get from Barcelona airport to the centre?

The Aerobús runs to Plaça de Catalunya, metro line L9 Sud links the airport to the network, and the R2 Nord train leaves from Terminal 2.

Which area suits families?

The Eixample, with wide pavements and easy metro links, or Poblenou near the beach. Confirm that the room and the beds suit everyone.

Is there a tourist tax in Barcelona?

Yes, per person per night. The rate terms say whether it is included or paid at the hotel.
